Straightforward licensing?

Font licensing can be a pain in the arse, we know that. There's a lot of licensing systems out there and everybody does it differently. Our old license mixed desktop and web use into one package (which we think is nice and already simpler than most), but it still relied on things like CPU counts and monthly website visitors as core metrics. Those actually aren’t that specific but confused people in multiple ways. Also it meant keeping track of technical details that didn’t really reflect how you actually use fonts day-to-day.

If you were a freelancer with a big website audience, you could end up paying more than a large agency working for multiple clients. On top of that, apps, games, movies, or streaming projects were completely off-limits unless we wrote a custom offer for it. Subcontractors could only touch the fonts under very strict conditions. In short: it worked, but it wasn’t great.

What has changed?

One simple metric

With our new EULA (Version 2.0), we follow some progressive players like ABC Dinamo (cheers guys!). Instead of tracking machines and traffic, licenses now scale with company size. It’s simple: your team size determines your tier. If your company persistently grows, you simply upgrade your license. No more counting CPUs or worrying about monthly analytics.

Two packages for usage

We’ve also stripped it down to two clear usage packages. The Basic package covers (basic) everyday needs — unlimited print, websites, and social media use. The Extended package adds more: you can use the fonts in logos and wordmarks, for apps, server setups, retail products and even films and streaming projects. That way, you choose the scope that actually matches your work, not some arbitrary metric.

Collaboration made easy

With our new licensing system the rules are clear: The client buys and owns the license. But if you're the designer or agency working for them (a so called subcontractor), you don't need a separate license. Subcontractors can use the fonts while they’re working with you — they just have to delete the files when the job’s done. No more awkward workarounds.
And for more convenience: Designers and agencies can now buy licenses directly for their clients, as long as the client’s info is entered correctly.

Fitting options for everybody

Not every person or organisation is the same, so we’ve added more license types to reflect that. Non-profits get 50% off while getting full commercial licenses. Students get 75% discount and can use the fonts in their personal and/or school projects (and even so after graduation). And if you just want to test-drive, our trial fonts are now full-featured (I'm serious right now), so you can really see what you’re working with before committing.

Modern world boundaries

The world has changed a lot since our last EULA. That’s why we’ve added a few new restrictions to keep things clear: no use in AI or machine learning training, no political or cryptocurrency-related campaigns without permission, and no uploading font files to public repositories. Basically: Use the fonts for design, not for things that compromise the work.

What does this means for you?

All of this boils down to a simpler, fairer, more transparent system. You don’t have to track visitors or devices anymore. You pick a license based on your team size, choose Basic or Extended depending on what you’re creating, and you’re good to go. Whether you’re a student experimenting, a small studio designing for clients or a larger brand working across platforms: The new system is designed to fit how you actually work.

We really hope that these changes will suit you and make the licensing process even easier. If you got any questions or feedback regarding the new system, feel free to contact us via mail.
